Frank’s Sport Shop is a Fishing License authorized issuing agent for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, which means that you can purchase your fishing licenses in our store located at 430 E. Tremont Ave. Bronx, NY 10457 (click on the address to get directions on Google Maps). Please contact our store for license service hours since our authorized agent is not always available. License Requirements
In New York State you need a fishing license if you are 16 years and older, and fishing for:
- Freshwater fish species by angling, spearing, hooking, longbow, and tip-ups.
- Frog species by spearing, catching with the hands or by use of a club or hook.
- Freshwater baitfish for personal use.
You DON’T need a fishing license if you are:
- Fishing on a licensed fishing preserve.
- Fishing during the free fishing weekend.
- Fishing at a free fishing clinic.
- A resident landowner primarily engaged in farming (including lessees and members of their immediate families) when fishing on farm lands they are occupying and cultivating.
- A farm fish pond license holder (including members of their immediate families) fishing on waters covered by the license.
- A Native American living and fishing on reservation land.
- A patient residing at a qualifying U.S. Veterans Administration hospital or facility in New York State.
New York Resident Qualification
To qualify for a New York State Fishing License, you must have permanent residency in New York State for more than 30 days. Residency is a place where you maintain a fixed, permanent home, and to which you always intend to return.
You will need one of the following documents as proof of residency when purchasing your fishing license:
- NYS driver license from DMV showing a valid NYS address.
- NYS non-driver identification from DMV showing a valid NYS address.
- Current NYS vehicle registration showing a valid NYS address.
- IT-201 OR W-2 income tax form from the previous year.
- Current voter registration card.
- Current student ID card from a New York State College or University.
- Military Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) OR military orders.
- Current pay stub OR note on letterhead from a current employer. Either must verify your legal NYS address.

You may qualify for a free/reduced fee annual fishing license if you are:
- Active duty military. More Info.
- Military veteran with 40% or greater disability. More Info.
- Senior citizen (70 years or older). More Info.
- Native American member (select tribes). More Info.
- Legally blind. More Info.
- Non-resident student attending a New York State college or university full-time. More Info.
Lifetime Licenses:
Fish for life with a lifetime license! Available to New York residents only. See costs below.
General Fishing Licenses Cost
For New York Residents:
- Lifetime Fishing License (ages 0-69): $460
- Lifetime Fishing License (ages 70+): $65.
- Annual Fishing License (ages 16-69): $25/year
- Annual Fishing License (ages 70+): $5/year
- 7-day Fishing License: $12/week
- 1-day Fishing License: $5/day
- Military/disabled Fishing License: $5/year
- Marine Registry Fishing License: $0/year
For Non-residents in New York:
- Annual Fishing License: $50/year
- 7-day Fishing License: $28/week
- 1-day Fishing License: $10/day
